It has plenty of experience in blocks of flats in Praia and Mindelo. Most of the smaller properties in Vila Verde are now sold, so it has moved up the West Coast. The resort starts at the northern boundary of Mudeira and continues for 2 km along the coastline towards Monte Leao. Unlike Vila Verde it really is on the sea front and villas will be built along avenues, leading down to the beach. There will be several swimming pools - still a novelty in Sal, which is so short of fresh water. But none of the villas or apartments appear to face the sea - a reflection on Tecnicil`s lack of experience with tourist development. Rather they will be aligned like British suburban crescents in cul de sacs - surely a missed opportunity. The site will be an Aldearmento Turistico with an hotel and a mix of studios, apartments and villas, some terraced and some free-standing. Prices are going to be higher than at Vila Verde or Murdeira. But it has a better position than Vila Verde facing south-west across Murdeira Bay. The cheapest studio is on offer for £53,000 and the villas are priced well above £250,000. The first to be built will be next to the president`s house along the highway as building here will create sandstorms over the remainder of the site. Later building will take the complex closer to the Bay. Part of the site will be under the flight path into Amilcar Cabral airport, which however currently does not have many flights a day. It will eventually have tennis courts and a small golf putting green and perhaps some shops.The company, which is registered in Praia is issuing an Escudo Bond on the Cape Verde stock exchange to raise £4.5m to finance the project and the building at Vila Verde. |
