Pedra de Lume Property DevelopmentEast of Espargos at the old salt portThe salt mine and port that gave Sal its name is to be developed. The worn out overhead gantries which carried the salt up from a volcanic lake through a mountain tunnel and down to the loading dock still stand, waving in the wind. But the mine and port have been disused for years, displaced by easier sites. It remains one of the few tourist spots on land, with a large but usually empty cafe and some nice old buildings as well as its own Dead Sea. The Italian Steffaninni, so infamous in Sal, has bought most of the land, including the lake. It will be developed as a tourist attraction. Terraced houses and flats will be built in the Italian style with terraces covered against the sun by wooden pergolas. Prices are from £70.000. It does not yet have approval from the Camara or Cabo Verde Investimentos. This time they will probably arrange to get it before starting building, so that could take a while. |
