Pontoon Hotel

Centre of Santa Maria near the pier

The new hotel is owned by the owner of the da Boa Vista and is in the centre of town near the best restaurants and bars. It has a small pool and a terrace which takes in the evening sun. Rooms are large and clean and it is well managed by Victor Rocha, who moved from Murdeira and speaks some english. The breakfast room has a large panoramic view out towards the sea, which is about 200m away. It is built on top of an arcade of shops and so does not suffer the petty burglaries which can affect some other hotels and apartments. Prices from just £138 per person for a week.. J from Bristol liked it.

"The trip to Santa Maria was brilliant, we loved it. The hotel was very good and well worth the money, clean, new, friendly. We couldn`t have been better looked after. The manager and staff very helpful. It just needs the grounds landscaping. I dropped enough hints!! We talked to the chap who will be in charge of entertainment in a couple of weeks time. He has plans for developing the hotel amenities in the future. We would reccomend a stay there to anyone."

D&S from Essex like it too.
" Stewart and I had a fabulous time - it was lovely to meet up with you. We were so pleased with the apartment, resort, etc and we are counting down until we can take the children with us. An excellent choice. Thanks very much."

J from Sussex missed the power cut.

"The hotel was very nice and clean. Room was facing out to the main road so there were a few sleepless nights (overlooking Pirates nightclub!) but I still enjoyed sitting out on the balcony watching the locals! They could do with proper outside table and chairs! We just took the one chair out from inside. There were no problems with water and the one power cut we had we happened to be in Zum Fischermann across the road! "

J from Wales liked the manager

"Glad you got your things. Victor was a nice chap. I had a very good trip; thank you."

Z from IOW liked the service and breakfast

"Overall a very clean and friendly hotel - almost new. Rooms are fairly spacious with fridge, air conditioning and balcony. Bathrooms are clean and in good condition with a hairdryer. Maids clean and change towel everyday. Breakfast buffet has a good choice (cereals, yoghurt, fruit, toast, cakes, omelettes). Pool is kept very clean. The hotel was quiet in off-season. We headed down to the beach most days as it's so beautiful. I would recommend this hotel to anybody who prefers a smaller place to an all inclusive. Makes a great base for anybody who likes to get out and about and be more independent. As the hotel doesn't provide evening meals you can sample the restaurants in Santa Maria each evening. Great for fresh fish!"
