Apartments in Murdeira and Santa MariaApartments in Murdeira Beach, SalMost apartments are recently built and owned by Europeans. Some have a view over the ocean. Apartments are generally of two rooms, with large balconies and good airflow so that they do not need air conditioning. The standard layout includes full kitchen appliances and bath or shower rooms. Some can accomodate a small family. The Murdeira Bay area is ideal for swimming, in the ever-warm pool, or from a choice of small empty beaches. It is possible to windsurf and surf, just down the coast. Within the complex there is atennis court, children`s playground and seafront restaurant. Ful Board is only £75 pw. Fish can be caught off the rocks. The complex has a small shop. Within easy reach by taxi, are shops, hotels and restaurants of Santa Maria. Apartments in Santa MariaSanta Maria has many restaurants and bars and few mini-marts where you can buy frozen meat, fresh fish and vegetables and freshly baked bread. Self-catering is feasible if you are happy to eat local produce - mostly tuna and lobster and fresh vegetables. Some of the apartments on offer such as at Turtle Bay do not have electricity. Many others lack proper furniture and appliances. Black Point flatsSanta Maria east end 50m from the beach, some with seaviews, some partial view. Set just across the road from the Beach on the eastern side of town. These are large flats with a large,open communal roof terrace area, which has views of the sea. They are nicely furnished with Italian chairs and tables and kitchen equipment. There is a manager on site during working hours. They can sleep two or three in a bedroom and one more in the large living room area. Prices from £300 pw, but 15% more in High Season. The largest flat which sleeps up to seven packed in very tightly in two bedrooms costs £475pw or £550pw in High Season. Smaller flats from £350 per week. High Season PricesHigh season rates apply for Christmas, Easter and the summer holidays from mid-July to mid-September at 20% more. E from Grenoble found it very convenient."The apartment was ideally located, close enough (everything is close on this island really!) to go in town for diner or shopping without taking the car but quiet enough to put our heads down at night. We got friendly with one of the security guards for another residence and he was looking out for us bless him! He even invited us to a Gambian diner he'd made for his birthday! He showed us pictures of his wife and daughter, a lovely guy. "When she visited again for the second tm,e she added " We liked the apartment itself very much; it was quiet but close enough to all amenities which was why we decided to go back there this year. The location is perfect for us to check out the surf in Santa Maria, the pontoon and close enough to Ponta Preta. Then if there is no surf we can move on to explore further up the coast towards Murdeira and Leao Mountain or on the other side of the island.We love the apartments, their location is perfect for us and they are well equipped. We wouldn’t want to stay in a hotel; we’d rather be in self catering accommodation. We go to the restaurant every day and every evening but it’s nice to have breakfast and make a cup of tea when you want! The apartments are clean, spacious, quiet and ideally located. We really liked staying there each time we went to Sal. We’ve made friends with the security guard from the residence opposite the apartments; he is a lovely man and looks out for us. The security guard from our apartment was also really nice (he is the one who waited for us to give us the keys on our very late arrival!), he is from Senegal and speaks French, which helped! The cute kitten was an added bonus!
