Cape Verde Mountain Hotel Tours

Mountain Hotels on Cape Verde islands

The mountainous islands of Santiago. Fogo and Santa Antao each offer attractive hotels in the mountains for those who are not looking for a beach holiday. The mountain views are spectacular, often looking right out over the sea to one of the other islands. On most islands there are special tours for example to the volcano on Fogo or to the Pico da Antonia at 1394m on Santiago or to the peaks of the pinnacle shaped mountains on Santa Antao.

Due to their wonderful locations, these hotels are not particularly close to airports or to the normal arrival airport of Sal. The Quinta requires a flight and an hour`s drive. The Pedracin needs a flight, a ferry and a spectacular three hour drive through the mountains. The Pedra needs either one or two flights depending on the day and a two hour drive up through the lava fields. We are able to organise all of this and to suggest climbing, trekking or walking tours once you get there.

Hotel Quinta da Montanha, Santiago

Hotel Quinta da Montanha is 850m up in the Riu Vaz mountains and 25km from the airport. . .There are only 10 basic rooms but they come withh satellite TV. A veranda leads to the roof restaurant, where barbecues and buffets of local food are cooked and served with Fogo wine. A welcoming host will advise guest on walks and play mornas in the evenings.

C from Brussels liked the way that the owner entertained guests

"By far the nicest place in Santiago. Food tasty, room comfortable, with a nice bathroom.. A very warm welcome from the owner, an agronomist has useful tips for hikes. You can share mornas over a drink in the evening.."

Price; £26 per person in double room per night

Pedracin Ranch, Santa Antao

The hotel is a converted farm, perched half way up a mountain above the usually dry bed of the Ribiera Grande. It is fresh and clean and you can watch falcons soaring amongst the high mountain peaks around. Seperate wood and stone chalets form the bedrooms which are set among bougainvilleas and banana palms, on a steep mountainside. There are horses, peacocks and a small swimming pool. There are rarely many guests as it is a small and exclusive hotel, but it is ideally quiet, sunny and relaxing.

D from London liked the pool.

"Rooms are comfortable and clean and in fitting with the spectacular setting of the hotel. Loved the fresh water swimming pool and sun terrace which was small but the hotel was not full when we visited so that didn't matter. The staff were extremely friendly .

Price £19 per person per night for a standard room or £23 for a suite in a stone cottage.

Pedra Brabo Inn in the Caldera of Fogo Volcano

This is one of the most basic places that you could stay in the Cape Verdes. But it nestles right in the centre of the caldera of the volcano with truly spectacular views of Mount Fogo. It is owned by a French couple so that the cuisine makes up for the bareness of the bedrooms. It also has a beautiful garden

C from Birmingham liked the food.

"A walk up the volcano is worth the effort, start early in the morning. Patrick a Frenchman lives in Cha de Caldera, up there on the volcano. He is a first class chef and his restaurant food is superb."

Price £20 per person per night in double room

We are able to organise trips which take in one or two of these hotels for one or two weeks or all three over two weeks.
